Globalizing Standards
The implementation of Common Core State Standards offers the opportunity for policys makers and educators to revise curriculum to suit current needs and trends in education. Part of the curriculum revision needs to include state and national standards that incorporate a global perspective. Such a perspective does not require any additional material or "add-ons", rather it requires that educators be attentive to the need to teach a global perspective while teaching curriculum. Below is an example of how Illinois State Standards might be revised to indlude a global perspective. Changes to the state standards are indicated in red. To illustrate these standards in practice, I have applied them to a lesson on outsourcing for a freshmen level world cultures course.
